You can get information on public records of bankruptcy filing without having to pay for it. Us bankruptcy courts have an automated Touch-Tone telephone inquiries system called "Voice Case Information System" or VCIS where a person can obtain information by calling the VCIS court number and providing name, case number or social security number.

If the VCIS of a specific court is not available or is out-of-service, you can call the court's main phone directly on business days, during regular hours. The VCIS lines are free to use. Most courts also provide this information trough their website.
